never ending?

Last night, Cameron asked me if I was going to finish sanding the staircase today.  It was my turn to raise an eyebrow.

I am trying to make a dent in this project, really.

Putting the lathe to work. Notice the perfectly manicured nails.

All of the walnut spindles have been sanded to remove years (100+!!!) of grime.  Isn't it such a pretty wood?  Now they need a light sanding with a finer grit paper before putting a clear finish on them.

Can you tell it's old? Roman numerals!

These are the trim pieces from the risers. Just about finished with them, with only a few more to go!

Almost to the top! A little more sanding and we can put things back together and then paint!

Why it takes a fair bit of motivation for me to work on this project: I love being covered in sawdust!

So, this is where we are at right now. Better get back at it so I can have a finished project to show you soon!

P.S. Thanks for all the feedback yesterday about the hardware! Maybe with enough of your votes I can convince him!

  1. Those stairs are going to look gorgeous when you finish them! but I wonder what you'll be thinking of more when you stare at them in a couple of years- their gorgeousness or how long you spent making them look that way?!

  3. Wow.... you will N.E.V.E.R. be accused of being lazy for sure! I have no idea how you do this with a little guy around. What's your magic?

The wood looks beautiful without the grime... :)
